Balnarring is the small town in the middle of a string of Western Port villages. The shops sit along Frankston-Flinders Road, with farms, vineyards and rural blocks around them, and beach settlements at Somers, Balnarring Beach, Merricks Beach, Shoreham and Flinders. Most of the beach houses sit empty for much of the year, so lockouts here often happen on the first night of a stay.

Holiday home lockouts

The usual story: you drive down for the weekend and the key isn't in the lockbox, or the last guest took it home. Call, tell us the address and that it's a holiday home, and we'll get a local locksmith on the way. Have something that shows you own the house or are staying there, such as a rates notice, ID with the address or a booking confirmation. You'll be asked to show you live there. That's there to protect you. More on emergency lockouts and what to do in a holiday home lockout.

Key safes and rekeying for shared beach houses

When a beach house has been shared for years, nobody knows how many keys are out there. Rekeying makes every old key stop working without replacing the locks. A key safe or a smart lock with codes for each guest means no more posting keys or hiding them under a pot plant. More on lock changes and rekeying and key safes for holiday homes.

Salt air and locks that sit unused

Locks near the water at Somers, Shoreham and Flinders get salt air, and locks on a house that's empty for months can stiffen. If a key is hard to turn, don't force it. A snapped key in the lock is a bigger job than a stiff cylinder. A locksmith can service, rekey or replace a seized lock. What to do if a key snaps in the lock.

Rural blocks, sheds and gates around Merricks

Inland around Balnarring and Merricks there are farms, vineyards and acreage with sheds, workshops, gates and padlocks. Lost a key, or a padlock rusted shut? A locksmith can usually cut a key from the lock, open it, or replace it. Padlocks can often be keyed alike so one key opens them all. Give clear directions and any gate codes when you call. More on key cutting.

Car lockouts and car keys

Keys locked in the car at Point Leo, the Flinders pier or the Balnarring shops? A mobile car locksmith can open most cars without damage and cut and program replacement keys for most common makes. More on car lockouts and car key replacement.
