Tyabb and Baxter are two small towns on the Stony Point line, with farmland and acreage around them. Tyabb is known for its antique shops, including the Tyabb Packing House in the old fruit cool stores on Mornington-Tyabb Road, and for Tyabb Airport, the Peninsula Aero Club's airfield. Baxter sits further north near Frankston, with a small township around the station and much of the suburb in the green wedge. Out here, locksmith jobs are as likely to involve a shed, a gate or a ute as a front door.

Sheds, gates and padlocks

On a rural block, the house key is often the easy one. The keys that go missing are for the machinery shed, the workshop, the stables, the tank stand and the front gate chain. A locksmith can usually cut a new key from the lock, open a padlock that has seized from weather and dust, or replace it with a sturdier one.

If you've collected padlocks over the years, many can be rekeyed or replaced so one key opens them all. A cheap hasp on the shed where the tools and mowers live is a common weak point. More on key cutting and security upgrades.

Lockouts on acreage

Locked out of the house? Check every door first, then call. Tell us the road, the property number and how to get in the gate. Long driveways and locked gates slow things down, so clear directions help. Most standard house locks open without damage, and you'll be told what's involved first. More on emergency lockouts and what to do when you're locked out.

Rekeying after you buy

With so many Tyabb and Baxter homes recently bought, rekeying on moving day is one of the most useful jobs here. On an acreage property, that means the outbuildings and gates as well as the house. Previous owners, tenants, agents and tradespeople may all have had keys. Rekey or replace your locks? and more on lock changes and rekeying.

Car, ute and farm vehicle keys

Keys locked in the car at the station, the antique shops or out in a paddock? Lost the only key to the ute? A mobile car locksmith can open most vehicles without damage and cut and program replacement keys and remotes for most common makes on the spot. Have the make, model and year ready. More on car lockouts, car key replacement and lost car keys with no spare.

Businesses in Tyabb

Antique dealers, cafes, workshops and hangar tenants all have keys to manage: staff turnover, after-hours access and stock worth protecting. Restricted key systems, rekeying when staff leave and safe opening are all covered. More on commercial locksmith work and safes.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered

Do you cover Tyabb and Baxter?

Yes, along with the rural roads around them and neighbouring Somerville, Hastings and Langwarrin.

Can you open a padlock that has rusted shut?

Usually, yes. If it can't be opened, it can be cut off and replaced, and the new one can often be keyed to match your other locks.

Can you get to a property with a locked front gate?

Yes. Give clear directions, the property number and any gate code or arrangements when you call.

Should I rekey the sheds as well as the house after buying?

It's a good idea. Sheds and gates often hold the most valuable gear, and you don't know who still has keys.

How much does a locksmith cost in Tyabb or Baxter?

It depends on the job, the time of day and what needs doing. You'll get the price before anyone is sent.
